Gallery 57, a half year old North Shore gallery now known for outstanding original art, during the holiday season will feature one of a kind jewelry made by local and foreign artists.
The jewelry includes magnificent earrings, necklaces and bracelets that are not duplicated elsewhere. The artists will take orders if a person at the gallery would like something close to what is being displayed.

In addition there will be paintings, sculptures and photography by nearly a dozen outstanding Chicago and international artists. The sculptures include “The Runner” which has become a finalist as the official sculpture for the 2008 Olympics in China. More than 2,400 works of art were submitted to the Olympic art committee and it now is down to a handful with 17 judges from 9 countries.

An unusual painting on display is by Francisco Loyola, Round Lake resident and teacher for the past decade at the College of Lake County. His art work is broken up into individual paintings of three by three inch squares. Loyola, who came to the United States from Mexico 20 years ago, said he initiated this kind of painting earlier this year. His painting is entitled “A New Beginning.”
Among the other artists whose works are on display are Lee Radtke of Lake Zurich, Jacqueline Zemke of Lake in the Hills, Adam Pollock and his mother, Peta Kaplan of Highland Park whose income from sales will go to fund a Nicaragua art education program they founded earlier this year; also Esperanza Barrosa, Suzanne Poursine Massion, Eleonora Tugues of Venezuela; Jeffrey Breslow on Chicago’s Near West Side; and George Martinez.
Gallery 57 is located at 323 Waukegan Street in downtown Highwood with hours from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Telephone number is 847/433-4750. Web site is www.gallery57.com.
